One of the first things we need to find out in order to begin the process of your divorce is whether the divorce will be contested or uncontested.
In an uncontested divorce, both parties have an agreement on all issues and are in line with what the judge would agree with. Most uncontested divorces are finalized within 6 weeks and you will not need to make a court appearance.
If the parties do not agree to all issues, then it becomes contested for a judge to decide. In a contested divorce, the proceedings lead to a court appearance and may require mediation. However, this does not mean that things have to get ugly and family dynamics need to become mangled as a result. Contested divorce proceedings can be handled in a civil, professional manner where everyone involved gets a fair outcome.
